An Unlikely Pair

Meet Wallace and Jonas. They are probably the most unlikely pair you could find.

I often walk into my kitchen and find a scene like this. Occasionally there is some ear chewing going on, which I'm not entirely sure I approve of. Faces get squished, slapped, chewed, and sat on all for the sake of kitten entertainment. But somehow, despite all the abuses, this rabbit seems to enjoy the attention.

So, while some say these two appear to be enemies, I just say, they are one unlikely pair.

Baby, take a bow

Jonas is proud that he won 2nd place in his first photo contest. He would like to take a bow, wave to all his fans, and remind his mother that sometimes his antics are worth it. And he would like to be let out of his cage and take his time of freedom to chew some furniture.

In case you thought a rabbit was a good idea...

For those of you who saw the previous post and thought "Awww, I want a rabbit..." let me warn you the dangers of these furry little creatures.

They eat you out of house and home. Jonas' favorite foods include... chocolate, tacos, my shoe, doors, rugs, blueberry vodka, and watermelon.

They will even eat your garden if you let them...

They'll dig in your backpack and eat your treats (note the sweet tart on his head)...

Even after they've eaten all your food they still beg for more. They'll sit at your feet and longingly stare at you. And if you don't get the hint they might thrash about in their water dish or lift their 2 1/2 foot high cage with their teeth and slam it down, just for the effect.

They're really lazy and never help around the house. Even as I write this I look over and Jonas is passed out... in his litter box!

They just lay around and expect you to pet them...

They're so sneaky and if they don't wear a bell you'll lose them. So if you can't find them just go look in the pantry. They're probably there eating some rice

And don't ever cross them... because boy can they be moody!

So next time you decide you want a rabbit, think twice. ;)

Oh, and I forgot...

Happy Easter!

i Heart faces: Pets

This week at i Heart faces it's pets. I usually use my cat Mudles for anything pets, but I figured it was time to give Jonas a shot at fame.

This is my sneaky, naughty, misbehaving rabbit who thinks it's hilarious to knock over his water dish, jump out of his 2 1/2 foot high pen, eat everything in sight, lick my nose, sit at my feet and beg for food, and sprint through the house and leap into the air.

He's quite a fellow.

Hop over (get it... a rabbit... hop?) to i Heart faces for some more great pets...

i Heart faces: Pet Faces

This weeks challenge from i Heart faces is pet faces and those of you that know me at all know that I of course jump straight to a picture of Mudles. I have had this beloved cat since I was 10 years old and he is my dear and wonderful friend. And of course, the most beautiful cat there is.

Head over to i Heart faces for some more awesome pet pictures.

If you give a rabbit a watermelon

This is what happens when you let your rabbit try a piece of water melon. He's not satisfied with just a taste. He insists on having more. He begs for another bite. Just a small one. He begs and begs until you finally give up and give him the whole thing...

He eats and eats until his little tummy is full. Watermelons are sticky, you know, so a bath is needed

You think he's done and it's time to go inside. But no, he just needs one more bite.

And that is what happens when  you give a rabbit a watermelon.

A bird and his worm

There is this bird that I see every so often in my yard munching on the worms that should be fertilizing my garden. He's not very skilled at getting them into his mouth. It usually takes him a few tries before he gulps them down. I've seen this event a few different times and every time I wish I had my camera in hand so I could snap a picture of him with the worm. I made a mad dash for my camera the other day in hopes of getting there in time only to find a slighly wounded worm and a distraught bird. So I sat and I sat, watching and waiting, but alas, the bird flew away and worm ran free.

Welcome Home... did you bring me some pretzels?

Every time I walk into the living room this face is there to greet me. Nose pushed between the bars of the cage. Feet scrambling to get close to me, not because he wants to see me, but because he hopes I've brought some morsel to snack on. Perhaps a small carrot or maybe the stem of a strawberry. Even a pretzel will do, just as long as it is edible. Regardless of his motives in running to see me, I love coming home to this sweet face.

Old man Jonas

It's day 3 of my road trip. Oklahoma tonight. And finally a motel with internet! No new pictures (I'll have to admit I haven't taken a single picture thus far... all the best picture opportunities involve swerving off the side of the road and climbing over barbed wire into a field full of cows. Probably not a good idea.) Tomorrow I'll take a few... taken it slow to get to Chicago a day later, where hopefully we'll have an apartment!

So for today, a picture of Jonas I took the other day while my sweet neighbor was stuffing his face full of daisies.

I just have to say, this sweet bunny is the ideal traveling companion. He has spend the last 3 days sitting in the passenger seat, stretched out, enjoying the ride. What a guy!

The life and times of a cat named Mudles

Whoever said cats are not expressive has never met Mudles. This cat wears his emotions on his face. So let me introduce you to my cat...

He is a dreamer and he likes to be clean, even though he rolls in the dirt at least twice a day.

He's always on the lookout for something new, and often discovers me with my camera pointed in his face. You can see doesn't appreciate the paparazzi.

Once in a while he gets playful, but it doesn't last long.

He loves to eat grass, but it always makes him sick. He never learns.

He's annoyed a lot.

He pretends like he hates all the attention he gets.

But I'm pretty sure he loves it.

He always feels ashamed after he's naughty.

But he always recovers and returns to his poised self.

And at the end of the day, he stretches his legs.

Crawls into bed.

And goes to sleep.

Oh Jonas...

Today the oh-so-tolerant Jonas went on a field trip across the street to play with my sweet 5 year old neighbor. For those who don't know Jonas, he's quite popular with the ladies. He even gets phone calls from his 2 year old friend in Chicago. And while visiting Chicago last month I ran into a friend whose first question was, "How's Jonas?" Another friend whipped out her cell phone to show me that her backround picture was Jonas. This guy gets around and puts up with a lot. He's even traveled cross-country in the front seat of my car (and will do it again next week).

Anyway, Jonas went for a long awaited play date across the street where he was chased, carried around, kissed, stuffed full of leaves, and generally abused. I'm pretty sure he loved it.

The combination of a rabbit and a fast-moving 5 year old makes snapping a good picture difficult. Finally I gave in and attempted a staged shot. "Give Jonas a kiss again" was what I said...

Or make a confrontational growling face at him?

Once the art of carrying Jonas was mastered, keeping his feet on the ground was nearly impossible. And so Jonas found himself sailing precariously through the air in the hands of a child.

But despite the abuses, the reward of fresh leaves ripped from the tree were enticing enough to keep Jonas coming back for more.

A dog named Roxanne

There's something about a tiny puppy that's impossible to resist. My friend Jenni just adopted this sweet pup, Roxanne, who kindly posed for a picture or two, though most of the time she was just trying to lick the camera or chew my strap. But after some rough housing she finally curled up for a nap and I was able to snap this...

Easter

A special Easter treat...

"And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people."

-Matthew 27:50-53
